2025 Color Trends

There is a lot more to color trend than meets the eye—it is highly research and psychology- based, and can evoke all of the senses. Today I listened to the debut episode of Sherwin- Williams’ Colormixology podcast hosted by Sue Wadden and Emily Kantz. Sherwin-Williams has just unveiled their 2025 Color Forecast called Capsules, consisting of four color palettes. Each palette represents a different theme inspired by defining trends and influences, such as art and culture, fashion, sustainability, and innovation. Below, I have summarized each palette as described in the podcast and on the Sherwin Williams website.

Chrysalis

This palette is nature/earth-based, but does not include any blue colors. Think stone, wood tones, and sand, representing peaceful, sanctuary spaces that are muted and restrained.

Paradox

This palette includes fun, bright, bold and playful colors, and is a great way to achieve an eclectic style. It evokes Kidult Culture, a term referring to adults who embrace their inner childhood memories of toys, characters, and experiences. Think about the resurgence in popularity of Barbie when the movie came out in 2023—it was a pink-fest for all!

Wellspring

This palette communicates heritage, ancestral roots, design styles throughout history, seen in Ancient Rome and Greece, Art Deco, and Art Nouveau. It highlights ornamentation and details, use of patterns, and a resurgence in toile. It includes shades from brights to pastels, and hues of warm neutrals to deep, dark shades with a focus on openness and belonging/diversity.

Kindred

This palette is described as artistic expression, community-focused and up for interpretation. It features electric brights grounded by neutrals accented by “candy-coated” colors.

Any of these palettes can be used throughout a home, or in different rooms—some people will inevitably gravitate toward one specific palette for their entire home. Regardless, color should not be a mindless selection, but exercising great thought as to how it appeals to our senses and emotions. After all, there is a lot of money and time spent researching color! Download the entire 2025 Color Capsule report here!

Laura Merrill

My love of beautiful things has been an evolutionary journey, and has covered a broad spectrum of experience in various realms. This journey began several years ago when I opened a retail shop specializing in interior home furnishings and accessories, French antiques, gifts, and other related objets d'art. Owning a retail business provided a wealth of experience to me in many aspects–especially knowing what consumers gravitated towards.

After a number of years in the retail aspect of design, I decided to try an approach that better suited my lifestyle with young children–working directly with individuals to design their homes.

I feel that my Southern roots combined with my love for travel has afforded me the ability to create unique and timeless interiors. I find inspiration in my travels, and continually encompass new and unexpected treasures as a result.

My services range from individual room design to complete residential and commercial design. I also offer flexible services from consulting to project management. My work is eclectic and comfortable, incorporating texture into style in order to create a functional, comfortable space. I feel that one's home should be a reflection of who they are and how they live, and I treasure having the ability to translate my clients' lifestyles into their own unique reality. It has been immensely rewarding to see my clients delight in the finished product that is their newly decorated home.
